Durian -- E.

There's so much to say about this tropical fruit.  I feel guilty, however, going on and on about a treat that many of you who read this may never get to taste this side of heaven.

So I won't.

Read what Wikipedia has to say about it instead.

Oh man, they're in season right now and I am happy.

  1. I'm sorry but I put them in the same catagory as cantalope and that's not a good thing. Plus I'm very upset right now because I just found out that the "Durian" was probably the reason we didn't get to see the monkeys out in the jungle. Bummer. They didn't come in to be fed because their tummies were too full of the detestable Durian!

  3. I got such a kick out of this:
"Some people regard the durian as pleasantly fragrant; others find the aroma overpowering and revolting. The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as almonds, rotten onions, turpentine, and gym socks." Mom must have thought they were more like gym socks. :) And I loved the "no durian" sign. I love the culture you guys share with us.

  4. Update: 2-year-old James has finally tried it and he officially likes durian now. Dorie has not yet gotten the stuff into her mouth yet.
